Putin proposes tax service’s head Mishustin as prime minister

MOSCOW, Jan 15 (PRIME) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin has submitted the candidacy of the Federal Tax Service’s head Mikhail Mishustin for the post of prime minister to the State Duma for consideration after meeting with him, the Kremlin said on Wednesday.

“President Vladimir Putin held a working meeting with Mikhail Mishustin and offered him to obtain the post of prime minister. Having received the consent, he submitted the candidacy of Mishustin for the post of prime minister to the State Duma for consideration,” the statement said.

Acting Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said earlier in the day that the government is resigning, and a relevant decree was signed later by Putin.

The United Russia faction in parliament will hold a meeting early on Thursday to consider the candidacy of Mishustin, the faction’s head Sergei Neverov said.

“It is necessary to approve the prime minister, who will form the government, as quickly as possible. All the tasks that were outlined by the president in the address (to the Federal Assembly) require a speedy solution,” he said.

Sergei Mironov, leader of A Just Russia party, said that all parliamentary factions in the State Duma will meet with Mishustin early on Thursday. He also said his party will support Mishustin’s candidacy.

The State Duma said it will consider Mishustin’s appointment for the post of prime minister on Thursday.
